Information You Can UsePure gold is measured by karats: 24 karats is pure gold. The higher the gold content, the higher the value. If you took a cube of butter and cut it into 24 even pieces and then removed 10 of those pieces and added another metal, which makes it more durable and changes the color of the gold, that would be 14 karats. For example, 18 parts of gold and 6 parts of another metal is 18 karat. And 10 parts gold and 14 parts of another metal would be 10 karat gold. Jewelry and other items are not pure gold; so before purchasing the gold, it has to be tested to find out the amount of gold to determine its worth. Be aware that when jewelry stores or pawnshops are quoting a price to you, they sometimes use pennyweights, and one pennyweight (dwt) equals a little over 1 and 1/2 grams of gold. This can make it sound as if they are paying more when in actual fact it is actually less than if they are buying the gold by the gram. The way to determine that you are receiving the most possible for your gold is to select out a few pieces and go to several places which are advertising that they purchase gold. Then let Integrity Jewelers quote you on the same pieces. I’m sure you will be happy with the result. |
